Outfit Post

I recently got a new job working at a cafe Monday-Thursday which means for the first time in about four years I have my weekends off! I feel like the world has a totally different vibe on weekends - there's a lazy, dazed kind of feeling in the air that everyone shares. Last Saturday some girlfriends and I went out for Sunday brunch then headed to the Finders Keepers Market for some crafty inspiration. It was sunny and beautiful and filled with people so after perusing the stalls I indulged in one of my favourite pastimes - people-watching. It was a perfect way so spend a Saturday.

Anyway, I forgot to take my camera with me hence the name of this post, which is the only record i have of the day apart from a really bad photo of me eating an amazing vegan chocolate cupcake that will definitely not grace this blog.

I wore mustard yellow Gorman cords, American Apparel cable-knit sweater, J-Beans jelly sandals and envelope necklace.

My friend bought me this bronze-coloured envelope necklace from America. It opens into the perfect secret note-holder.

I was going to wear my Funkis for Gorman clogs but wimped out at the last minute - I'm a sucker for comfort when it comes to shoes!

Uh Oh, Gone Shopping...

I've been on a strict savings regime for about two months now as I save for travelling (New York, San Fran, Mexico and more) so I haven't really bought anything new in that time. This is coming from a person who may have had a mild shopping addiction in the past. Today I had a job interview/meeting at a cafe and across the road there was a Kmart so I decided to have a look. Cue slight failure of my planned budget for this week.

Anyway, I bought a couple of things - a cropped knit and a colour blocked t-shirt (blue and orange). The t-shirt is sheer at the back which I don't love but it's still good. I'm trying to wear less black so these purchases are also aiding my foray into the world of colour.

I also bought some essentials - stockings x2 and some strapless bras which were on sale and which I've been wanting/needing for a while.

All in all, a success! Hopefully buyers' remorse won't kick in in the next 12 hours...

Pesto!

Today I did something I've been saying I'll do for weeks and weeks - I made pesto with fresh basil from the garden! I was in Sydney last week and my mum, as usual, had homemade pesto in the fridge. It was so nice, so much better than store-bought. So when I arrived home and saw that our own basil plant was overgrowing to the point of ridiculousness I decided it was a sign. I used Stephanie Alexander's pesto recipe from her Kitchen Garden Companion which I'll copy for you below, but I found it to be a little oily. I'd suggest pouring in most of the oil to start with and then if the pesto is too thick add some more. I also didn't add the parmesan at the end as she suggests I just shoved it into the food processor with everything else and it worked fine (this was an accident on my part - didn't read the recipe through - but turned out not to matter!).

Stephanie Alexander's Basil Pesto
(I doubled the recipe in order to use up lots of basil and it made about 3/4 of a big jam jar)

1 small handful of tightly packed basil leaves
60g grated parmesan cheese
40g pine nuts
2 cloves garlic, crushed
125ml extra virgin olive oil
sea salt

Put everything but the cheese in a food processor and whizz until smooth. You can also use a hand-held whizzer. Add the cheese and stir until all combined. Store in an air-tight jar in the fridge.

Here's my finished product --->>      Yum!
